Rest in peace, Dale Roberts..

I was really saddened to learn this evening that former-Forest goalkeeper Dale Roberts has passed away at the tragically young age of just 24 years old.  No details have been released as to how it happened as yet.  He was at Rushden and Diamonds having left the Reds in the 2009 January transfer window – having previously spent time on loan with the club.

Obviously he never had the chance to break into the first team at Forest, but was highly rated – indeed, I’m sure that in an old game of Football Manager he found his way into my Forest first team.  He was capped for the England C team.  Rushden were due to play Eastwood Town in the FA Trophy this evening, but the game was understandably postponed.

My thoughts, and I’m sure your thoughts, go to his family and friends at this awful time.  A sobering event, and one that helps put this beautiful game we sometimes take so seriously into perspective.  I’m off to raise a glass to his memory, Rest in peace, Dale.

  3. Sad, sad news.

I hope the Club see fit to hold either a minutes silence or applause.

    • I think a minutes applause would be an appropriate option following this tragic news. He posed for a photo with my daughter a few seasons ago, he was a lovely lad.R.I.P Dale
