Update: bugger all is happening!

As we wait for the ‘done deals’ of a few weeks ago to be announced, and try to overcome the disappointment/disgust of England’s showing in the World Cup (well, those of us who follow England of course – I imagine a fair few of you had a good laugh at that!) it’s getting really rather close to the start of the season.  Now I have my season ticket in my possession I’m getting quite excited, but also frustrated of course with the lack of news.

There is, as ever, lots of names being linked to Forest – in the past I’d often get swept up in the excitement of a potential new signing and write about them, I’ve become a bit more cynical now and wait for something approximating confirmation.  But goddamn it leaves me sitting on my hands somewhat as I start thinking more and more about the forthcoming season for the Reds.

Elsewhere there’s been interest – Nigel Pearson has left Leicester City to take the reigns at completely-skint Hull City, which begs the question of the financial situation at the Foxes after such an impressive season last year.  Other neighbours Derby have had Kris Commons in training for the last few weeks to get him fighting fit and at fighting weight presumably – whereas we’ve announced a clearance sale in the BC Stand concourse on 3rd July.

The game against Derby after Christmas has been moved by a day, which seems to have riled many but suits me – it gives us longer to prepare after a trip to Middlesbrough which is no bad thing, in my opinion.  I guess it’s easy to be selfish when I generally book time off between Christmas and New Year so don’t have work considerations to worry about, which will probably affect many fans given the bank holiday situation this Christmas.

Probably the only interesting player rumour I’ve picked up on that’s new news links us to Motherwell’s Mark Reynolds – a young centre back who has apparently previously attracted the interest of Newcastle and Glasgow Rangers.  Then again, it seems to me that Craig Brown is simply trying to talk him up as he needs to sell him to be able to strengthen his squad, he says himself Forest have shown no interest.  That said, if he’s good, then why not?

Perhaps the most significant snippet in that piece was that Billy is due back from his holiday imminently which hopefully will see a bit more traction reached with whatever negotiations are occurring at the City Ground (surely there must be some, mustn’t there?).  Has anybody else heard any outlandish or realistic rumours?  Have you all renewed your season tickets?  Do you have anything more interesting than this article to say? (You must have!!).

  1. You would have thought that now season tickets are on general sale they would have already announced a couple of new signings??
And also brought out the new home shirt, my sons are very annoyed they haven’t got theirs yet!

It seems to have gone quiet on the Cohen to Bolton and Wilson to Celtic front, thankfully. Although 5m for Cohen would be good money if it was re-invested in Pratley and Shorey.
Boyd has gone back to Posh, which is a shame in my opinion.
I don’t like the rumours about Earnie going back to Cardiff (as a swap for Whittingham). Earnshaw is one of the true class strikers in this division, and a little more faith in him away from home will see him score 20 next season.
We are only a couple of new players away from being a real force next season, especially if we keep Wilson and Moussi gets fit.

    Exciting times ahead…..for a change!!

  2. As I’ve been out of touch for some time,I’m amazed that we haven’t made any signings. What on earth is going on ?????????

  3. I would imagine that there may be news soon as player contracts tend to run until the end of June. O say that in hope rather than expectation (although the fact that Billy is apparently back is hopefully not just coincidence).

Are we really having another new home shirt? Wouldn’t that be the third in three years?!

  4. I’m presuming with Billy in the US on holiday, the ongoing World Cup and July not upon us yet that things will warm up over the next few weeks. Well, I hope anyway. Last year was all about 1 July, probably be a bit longer this year. Pratley, Whittingham, Shorey, Austin and a central defender will be good enough for me 😉

  5. Bookies have us in as favourites to win the leage 4 quality signings and I think we could be on the verge of something big.

Cant wait for the leeds game Im coming down for it so lets just hope the boys give em a spanking.

    U reds

  6. PETER WHITTINGHAM! Contract is up, and papers (whether you trust them or not) are saying we are bidding £2m but are up against some strong competition…….blackpool.

Also Darren Pratley is a ‘done deal’ (dare I say it) and that fairly decent striker from Cardiff…you know the one (not chopra)

  7. Non Forest related but the Pearson to Hull story as mentioned by NFFC above certainly surprised me.

I remember reading a Foxes blog taking delight at our demise to Blackpool (it was written before their own demise at Cardiff) so I bet he is not laughing now! It’s an odd one though.

I hope Fulham don’t come in for Billy….

  8. Just been to Nottm to visit a client. Thought I’d take the opp to pick up our season ticket books…
While I was there, my lad texted to get him a goalie shirt.
Problem is, the club shop has been smacked with a wrecking ball, and the ticket office didn’t look much better.
I appreciate that the Club are trying to grow and improve, but why couldn’t I get any sort of club merchandise from anywhere?? The lass in the temporary T/O told me that you wouldn’t be able to buy ANY gear until the season starts. That can’t be right?
So I suggested I’d buy online. Oh no, she says, no retail sales through NFFC at all??!!
    Honestly, you have to laugh!
On the plus side, Dele Adebola was parking his car near mine and said hi.

    You Reds!
