Reading v Nottingham Forest preview..

It’s finally (nearly) here!  Once again we kick the season off against Reading!  Despite failing to get promoted last season, the Royals still present a challenging opening fixture for Billy’s new-look Reds – and plenty of the new boys are likely to be on show.

Camp is likely to be in goal, with Gunter and Lynch in the fullback positions – injuries to Wilson and Perch means that really the only centreback choices are Morgan and Chambers!  However, once you get to midfield there are a lot more options to consider – McKenna as captain will almost certainly feature – however with endless permutations open to Billy who knows?  I predict Majewski will partner him in the middle, with Tyson and Anderson on the wings.

Up front we are also spoiled for choice – I expect Adebola and Earnshaw to start, or possibly Adebola and McGoldrick.  Either way, I can’t wait – unfortunately I won’t be present at the Madejski stadium but will be trying to get myself to a radio.  A tough fixture, a relatively unsettled new team?  It’s hard to be too optimistic.

Victor Chandler you would hope as our sponsors should give us the benefit of the doubt, but still have us at 11/4 for the win – could be worth a cheeky bet for those of you feeling optimistic, given the more daunting 10/11 given to Reading to claim the win!  Sadly I think that’s the more likely outcome.  Remember if you’re a Forest season ticket holder you can register on Victor Chandler’s website and win a free season ticket next season if Forest win the league (okay, somewhat fanciful, but you only need to bet £5 to qualify!).

I think this is a tough game, I’m going to predict a draw at best for Forest, but fear a narrow win for the home side.  But then I am a grumpy and cynical bugger, so hopefully I’m totally wrong!

  1. Think you’ve pretty much nailed on who will start. Would be very surprised if Adebola doesn’t start, he really impressed me when he came on against Brum, and I really liked the look of McGoldrick.

Bet365 are offering 2/1 for Forest (Draw No Bet). Offers great value if we can keep it together at the back, as we may just nick it with the options we’ll have on the bench. Can’t see us losing to be fair, Reading won’t be the same without Coppell and Doyle, but still, they’re a bloody good team.

    Can’t wait!

  2. Anyone know the best way to get from Reading train station to the ground?

Not been to the ground before and I’m taking my son so any advice greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!
