Confirmation our new ‘keeper is Camp..

Lee Camp reminisces about a recent fishing trip

Popular former loanee Lee Camp looks set to be confirmed as our fourth signing of the season after Forest have announced that we’ve agreed an undisclosed fee with Queens Park Rangers, and terms with the player himself.  Certainly speculation has been mounting for a while, particularly after Paul Smith returned to training wearing a kit with 21 rather than 1 on it (not that squad numbers have been decided yet,  but Camp wore 21 whilst on loan with us).

Subject to a medical he will be joining us for an undisclosed fee from the London club, and signing his name to a four year contract.

Camp became universally popular after saving a penalty at former club (and the team he supported as a lad) Derby County, and celebrating rather enthusiastically.  Certainly his tenure in goal coincided with some degree of turnaround in our fortunes on the pitch, and upon his departure Paul Smith returned in outstanding form – so having a bit of healthy competition in such a key position makes a welcome change.

Of course, that wasn’t the last we saw of Lee Camp, his bungled attempt to claim a cross for QPR allowed us to nick the points at the City Ground, so he even did us favours whilst wearing the colours of another team!  Whilst I welcome the signing as I would the majority of them, I don’t quite buy into the hype that some quarters lavish upon him, so will be viewing with great interest should be be our starting choice just how he performs – and indeed, how long he retains his status with our notoriously fickle supporters!

Welcome aboard, Lee – it’s great we now have to genuinely credible choices to play in goal, both ‘keepers will now have to stay on their toes to keep their place – which is great for the team.  Although can we please for the love of god come up with a better chant than ‘Lee Camp is a Forest fan’, being a slightly grumpy old sod I find that incredibly embarrassing.

Can’t wait ’til this time next year to see if we can finally bottom-out the ‘Smith vs Camp’ debate – if both players can develop from the other, then we could end up with two excellent goalkeepers!

  1. i heard one at southampton away that went
Lee camp is a red un
he used to be a ram
then he joined the forest and became a proper man
    ************************************
    *************************************
then he went n took the piss and saved the penalty.

I missed the middle lines tho so someone else might know?

  2. Should just mention before anyone else does what a great shotstopper Smith is… you know how the rest of this one goes!

  3. that’s the signing ive been waiting for, funny how things pan out eh nffc?

  4. Brilliant news,no debate needed in my eyes NFFC,Camp is a better all round keeper,as Dave Jackel says Smiths a good shot stopper and thats it,if he came off his goal line i think he would get a nosebleed,as for getting the ball forward quickly no chance, the defence will be a bit more confident with Camp behind them,a couple more defenders would be nice well done to all involved……………

  5. get the guy from hibs and then stop buying. defo worth a bet on forest now.

  6. agree redash but get gunter in aswell, nobody we got can do right side defence and it needs sorting

  7. Totally agree nffc great signing i think lee will also be delighted to be back.

    U red

  8. Camp is no better than Smith. As QPR (H) proved. Why bother to sign him surely better is elsewhere????

  9. What about Derby away Martin he kept us in it,who would you like to bring in.

  10. Does no one remember his first home game, can’t remember who we played but early on he came to the penalty spot to claim a cross/corner. The city ground errupted!!!

  11. Some one has just phoned me saying he has heard on talksport tonite that Watford have agreed to sell us TOMMY SMITH for 1.8 million any one else heard anything………..

  12. SKY SPORTS website say an unnamed club has had a 1.8 million offer agreed to buy Watfords Tommy Smith.

  13. heard the rumour ragarding tommy smith about 9oclock via a local to me watford season ticket holder, trouble is i cant see what £1.8m will add to forest front line ??????

  14. is he ex scum ??

  15. yes he is seany but then so is our manager, top striker and new goalie!

Smith would be a fantastic signing, the main man at Watford but surely we cant afford another striker on our books?!!!

I worry that Earnie might be moving on – not at training due to -‘extended break following international duties’ – hmmm……

  16. Josh, it’s pretty much:

Lee Camp is a Red dog
He used to be a ram
but then he signed for Forest
    ‘cos he’s a proper man.

He took the shit from Derby
    and kissed the Forest tree
and then he went and took the piss
    and saved their penalty.

  17. It´s looking good. Everyone talking about momentum.I think we deserve a good positive season after what we have been through for the last few years !!
I hope we get Jones as his presence would intimidate anyone.
I´m sure gunter will be with us next week for a years loan although it would be great to get him on a contract,as Billy wants a settled squad of players who are all capable of playing in the premiership.
Where then does that leave wilson??
I expect the preston captain to join us too after an improved bid . Exciting Times !!!

  18. Well the signings have been rolling in… Camp is 100% sorted so now we await the rest…. mmm… wonder who’s next….

    Where’s that list???

  19. The post say we are looking to sign another striker so maybe Tommy Smith is on the cards although I would still prefer Mcsheffery as if his injury problems are really behind him he is Prem class. Still looking like the squad we finished last season with so not exactly unbeatable but could be mid table or higher. 6th would do me. What do others think. Remember don’t let your heart rule your head.

  20. I think if we can get the defence sorted Joe we are in for a decent season,we did finish quite well in the final run in plus we more than matched a couple of the promoted teams at home,my heart says we will finish top,my head says top ten no problem.

  21. I’m very disappointed at the homophobic title for this post NFFC. This is the 21st century – live and let live!

    😉

  22. […] – Sven-gate aside over the river, July saw us sign Lee Camp, Joel Lynch, Paul McKenna, Chris Gunter, Dexter Blackstock and Radoslaw Majewski.  Nine signings, […]
