We’ve only gone and signed someone!

The gossip-mills have been circulating for a while, and indeed, continue to suggest that deals have already been done – but today Forest have confirmed that David McGoldrick has sealed his move to us from Southampton for a seven-figure fee.  McGoldrick is a Nottingham-born lad and spent time over the river with the Magpies before ending up down south (with loan spells at Bournemouth and Port Vale before breaking into the Saints team).

I expect a stream of announcements this week, with probably Anderson next as it seems to be common knowledge we’ve agreed terms and a £750k fee with Liverpool for the pacy winger.  Indeed, it does make £1m (or more) for McGoldrick seem a bit pricey, although he’s been a fairly long-term target for us, so it’s good news on that front to have landed him.

So some great news, and a bit more reason to start scanning the news feeds with a little bit more optimism, perhaps!

  1. Great news, if nothing else it shows Forest’s intentions and it will heopefully open the flood gates. For such a dearth of news, Forest have been working to get in players. As for McGoldrick, he’s still pretty young, did quite well last season inspite of Southampton’s dire season and will create yet more competition to an already large strike force. If/When Adebola signs, that will be 5 first teams strikers who could all easily get a place in the first team (Tyson, Earnie, Garner, McGoldrick and Adebola). We still need a big man at the back; get one of those we have been linked with a we start to look like a very good unit. UUU rrreeeddsss!!!

  3. Great news and I hope this is the first of many..

One concern is that we still don’t have a club sponsor. Even the club shop is not selling shirts anymore..times are hard and I wonder if we will be in plain shirts come August?

    Does anybody know anything?

  4. decent signing, and great to finally get a signing done! Although 1m i think was a bit pricy. Hopefully more signings on the way! look like were shaping up to have a decent squad for next season. U REDS!!!

  5. Sponsors, we can but hope; if we had plain shirts I might just think about buying one.

And move my seat to the YOUR NAME HERE corner, of course.

  6. Regarding the club sponsor, I heard talk a while back that it was either going to be an offshore betting company or we would sponsor Childline by having their name on our kits. Childline is heavily supported and funded by ND. I’d love to see us do this but can’t see it happening.

  7. Did anyone else see Doughty Hanson lose 80 million plus with the death of Setanta? Combine this with the business nazis at the EU looking to cripple hedge funds with new banking leglisation and I’m surprised Nigel is giving us any money at all.

I would LOVE Forest to be sponsored by a charity though.

  8. As for sponsors, I heard Eon were favourites…..anyone else hear that?

  9. McGoldrick, Anderson and Dele all before renewal date. don’t yer just love the way this club is run ?

need to sort the backs out now and we will be ok

  10. Worst-kept transfer secret confirmed – Adebola has agreed to sign for Forest tomorrow when his Bristol City contract expires.

That’s some strike force we are going to have – even Neil Warnock would be hard-pressed to beat this one; Tyson, Earnshaw, Garner, McGoldrick, Adebola, …..

  11. Also heard the Child line sponsor thing, and I have noted its not on the Top banner of the Forest Website!

  12. All sorts of rumours on sponsors. I don’t think EON will be in the frame, Childline are backed by Nigel Doughty but I don’t think Forest will be ‘doing a Barca’

Santander is a surprise shout from some quarters.

Whispers are a deal is done, but I have no idea as to how accurate – or the cause for the delays (as obviously they’ve issued season tickets now without a sponsor, and are rumoured to be considering launching the home kit without a sponsor too).

  13. […] much really.  Although unusually the Reds tied up some transfers quite quickly – snapping up David McGoldrick, Dele Adebola and Paul Anderson as permanent […]
