Nottingham Forest vs Oldham Athletic preview

Oldham Athletic are the next visitors to the City Ground, making the trip south to Nottingham on Tuesday 12th. Last season we comfortably beat ’em 3-0 at the City Ground, but lost by the same scoreline at Boundary Park.

I don’t need to mention Forests’ recent run – unbeaten in the league and a perfect record aside from a draw at Huddersfield leaves us top of the league and three points clear. Oldham are currently 18th in the league, and haven’t had the best of starts to the season – but they will arrive in the midlands on the back of a 1-0 win over Scunthorpe at the weekend.

Forest of course beat Yeovil Town 1-0 in Somerset at the weekend, but came out of that game with injuries to defenders Danny Cullip and John Curtis – so there will be enforced changes to the Forest lineup, with probable inclusion of Wes Morgan and John Thompson to cover the injured pair. There is of course also the possibility of Kris Commons returning to the side, which will give our midfield more of the balance it seems to crave, particularly if we revert to a 4-4-2 formation.

On paper this should be a home win, but despite Forest’s solid start to the season their performances have not been without concerns, so hopefully there is no complacency with the squad or fans alike, and they can improve their performances to beat Oldham comfortably. Given that it’s a midweek night match, the away following will be smaller so it seems like it would be a good opportunity to capitalise and get a result.
