And it’s the Mackems again!

Our next Carling Cup opponents...

Our next Carling Cup opponents...

Hot on the heels of playing them preseason at the City Ground, we are once again set to welcome the Mackems to the City Ground for a Carling Cup 2nd round tie.  Which should certainly be interesting!

Guy Moussi and Julian Bennett will have the opportunity to renew the starting-to-flourish acquaintance with Diouf (which seemed to involve them clattering him), and perhaps Roy Keane’s unconventional withdrawal of a player for no reason other than to test his side’s capability to cope with ten men (which they did) should they ever pick up a late dismissal will end up being tested in more realistic circumstances.

Either way it’s a good draw, I think.  Given the number of fans who made the trip down from the North East for a friendly, I imagine the away following will be good – and hopefully it will be a draw for the home fans too (he says, having resolutely sat at home listening to the radio this evening!!).

  1. Nice to see Earnie getting a couple before the Swansea game. yes Sunderland is a good draw, which I think will be the result . Should be a good game and as you say they will bring a good crowd with them !! Alan http://www.website.ws/alansand

  2. It’s a good draw and looks like the tie of the round..more sky money…thankyou..Martin certainly looks like another good signing,so well done there. Nice to see Earnie get a couple before we go to swansea. Things are looking good….touch wood . Alan http://www.website.ws/alansand

  3. Ha ha ha, touch Wood – let’s touch Alan then!! Soz, had 2 write it – no offence intended. Seriously though, you said exactly the right things. I’d also like to add the performance of Newbold (on his debut) & emergency signing Martins. (A Man Utd youth website reports it’s a months loan (because being classed as an Emergency he was allowed to play last night) which could be extended to 5/6 months or a season (I doubt that.)) Both players did well & Martins playing with no idea of his team mates did well (from the official report -the rest I’ll read in a bit).

Saturday is a different kettle of fish & though we played them over the last few seasons I’m sure it’ll be a very interesting match especially now with Earnie off the mark officialy & Martins a few practices with his team mates.

Also, it makes a change getting a player from Man Utd rather then giving them 1. :)

  4. All looking good for Saturday.
I’m going to Swansea fully fired up after reading the Planet Swans site match review !

    COME ON YOU REDS !!

  5. Great tie, too bad I will be working that night and I won’t be able to follow :(
The worst of all is that it might even be on Greek TV! But I can always tape it…
Good luck you Reds, let’s get the engines going for that Swan Lake visit now.

  6. Should be an interesting match…plus if we do end up losing it won’t exactly be a case of national humiliation. We’ve had more than our fair share of that in recent years…

Nothing to lose and a fair bit to gain.
