So, is Megson after Commons or what?

Or is it just a case of lazy journalism?

Megson’s obviously new into his role at Bolton Wanderers – and indeed, fresh from a rather honeymoon-period-inducing defeating of Manchester United of all people.  He wasn’t really at Leicester for long enough to have developed any designs on their squad, so it would make sense for journalists trying to find one of our lads that might interest the ginger one, with January looming.

Commons is the easy choice – he’s the archetypal lower-league flair player enigma.  He’s someone we’ve seen make monkeys of Tottenham Hotspur in the cup, he’s also someone who we’ve seen go absent without leave against more lowly opponents.  However an impressive selection of edited highlights can sure have the ‘Barry Cogan’ factor for our Fleet Street friends.

Upon reading this rumour, and rumour it is – and very unsubstantiated at that – I did a little bit of digging around my limited collection of sources (sources always sounds like someone who is claiming to know something nobody else does – this isn’t the case here!), and the alternate rumours I hear are that it is another midfielder that Megson has designs on.

Of course, one tempting factor with Commons is he won’t command a big transfer fee – he’s only signed up at Forest ’til the end of the season afterall.  That said, he’s also worked with Megson before, at reported what was apparently an incredibly tumultuous time off the pitch, so I can’t think he’d be in a hurry to do so again, Premiership opportunity or otherwise!

But anyway, my random questionings and investigating suggest it is a first-time-Forest goalscoring Sammy Clingan who has been catching the eye lately, and it’s no surprise really.  Sammy’s looked excellent this season, and has also been eye-catching at international level with Northern Ireland of late.  Hopefully this is just a bollocks rumour, too, because I’d be gutted if we were to lose Sammy.

  1. Kris commons actually stated in his online article that the time under megson was the worst of his career. So i very much doubt this rumour to have any truth. Ive heard a few rumours recently from close sources that spurs are intrested in Lewis Mcgugan, and that Marlon Harewood has requested a loan move to forest. I hope the latter is true in this case.

  2. Getting Marlon back, now that would be strange. A little reminder of Championship days, hopefully to conincide with us seeing more of them in the future.
