Despite a fifteen point headstart, Leeds could overtake us on Friday..

It was a bit alarming the other day to take a look at the league table, and the fixture list, and then realise that on friday, should Leeds United beat Bristol Rovers (comprising their sixth league win on the bounce), they will move above us in the league table.  To make matters worse, we’ll descent into the murky depths of the relegation zone!

Of course, we could correct all that on saturday with our trip to Port Vale, and we would still have an additional game in hand after the weekend too – but it does rather bring home the differing fortunes of the Reds and the Whites as the season has kicked off.  Of course, there’s a long way to go, and I also remember how we had a string of decent-results-yet-strangely-unconvincing-performances at the start of last season.

The big fat reality check is that a league campaign is a proverbial marathon rather than a sprint, but when you consider the upheaval they’ve undergone, and the speed with which their squad was thrown together, it does make me cast envious glances up the M1 (I have very good eyesight, you see) at how positive the start to Leeds’s season has been compared to our own.

If we fall beneath them so early after a fifteen point headstart, it really brings it home!

  1. Chin up folks, Forest like us (Leeds) are a Premiership team and I’d love for us both to go up this year. With all due respect to the likes of Fulham, Wigan, Birmingham, Portsmouth etc, they are premier league clubs on merit, as we are Div 1 teams because of our shortcomings but with their infrastructure and fan base, they can only look on envy. I gues they’d kill for our attendances week in, week out. C’mon Forest, keep the faith.:-) Madders

  2. tough titty

  3. get the passion .WE HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!be hated get angry and be together ,marching on together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Yeah, but the good news is……

Hang on, I’ll think of some in a minute…

Ah yes: the squad’s had a good rest, apart from any key players, of course, including our only fit, unbanned striker who can shoot straight. Draw, anyone?

  5. You might have something there… if the Leeds fans exuded anything at the City Ground it was passion and togetherness. We struggle with that, we’ve been in the doldrums too long!

  6. Being a Leeds fan and a realist, I don’t think it will be too long until you guys are back on form and chasing down the leading pack.

We have had a fantastic start to the season, but if the fifteen point penalty hadn’t been imposed on us, I doubt we’d be in the position we’re in now. I was at the Hartlepool game that we won 2-0 and although we deserved to lose by two, three or maybe four goals, we did what you need to do to survive in these leagues… carry on fighting.

Forest seem to have let their heads drop a tad too quick this season and, speaking from experience, that doesn’t help. I still think come May time, we’ll both be up there and there will be no love lost as far as title honours go.

Here’s to a good long haul and both of us reaching the Premiership sooner, rather than later!

    Marching on together!

  7. I agree that both Forest and Leeds should go up.Its about time forest got their acts together this season and get some points. We should both be bouncing off each other this season and dominate the league. We have made an excellent start,i hope we maintain that. One of us needs to knock Leyton O off the top.We will race you!!!
    Come on both teams!!!!

  8. I’ll like both Leeds & Forest to be back at Championship league & hopefully EPL from times to come. I still believe that both teams can do it!

    Keep the faith!!!!!

  9. Don’t worry Forest. I am sure (and seriously hope) that you’ll be up there with us come the end of the season. (Second place, behind us obviously) Key is to not panic… Alternatively, get up the noses of the football league through no fault of your own and incur a ridiculously unjust points penalty – That seems to guarrantee the jelling of fans and the team in the fight for the common good.

  10. Fair play to Leeds. Although I think they have had certain luck this season (against us and Hartlepool), they have had to work hard to get it. But I suppose 5 straight wins can’t be luck…
We have everything in place; players, fans and ground. So now it’s up to our Tactical Genius Manger to do a Wisey and get the team playing as just that, a team.

    The only way is up!!

  11. I think Boston Utd may feel you got off fairly lightly, Rob!! And if you hadn’t played shit most of last season you wouldn’t have been flirting with relegation in the first place.
Nevertheless, respect due for the efforts this year.
First coaching session for the school team tonight, and my fellow coach is a Leeds fan. Oh, how I’m looking forward to it!?!

  12. Madders has it spot on. I really hope Leeds and Forrest both go up this season so we can play you guys again next season in a league more worthy of both teams long suffering fans. It’s early days and Leeds have had more luck this season than in the last 2 seasons put together! Once the confidence comes back good things will happen.

  13. i’m united fans from indonesia

  14. I’m not sure either Forest or Leeds fans are ‘long suffering’. Yes there has been trauma in recent season but we’ve both won trophies in many the supporters lifetimes and both sets of fans realise that their club will be back in a higher division sooner or later.

Here’s long suffering for you. My mate is a Notts County fan and he describes a visit to Meadow Lane like going to visit an old, dying relative. You love them dearly but you know there’s not much hope for the future!

  15. We are simply a laughing stock.

    There, I said it. Again.

  16. I think in terms of depth, you might struggle this season, Thats not from looking at it but just from what i have heard.

Would love us both to go up, your lot just need to learn to score.

  17. Alright mate, we have depth in defence and midfield – but bad injuries to start the season. I do think we lack depth upfront (which shows, in lack of goals!), and we only have one recognised keeper too aside from youngsters – who may yet prove to be able backup.

We shall see – it’s early days for both of us, but certainly you guys have the momentum we lack!
