Leicester game rescheduled, Clarke on the mend, post-match violence and rumours are rife..

Okay, most important things first, early indications suggest that Leicester City defender Clive Clarke is improving in hospital.  Leicester’s owner, Milan Mandaric, went to the press having visited the player at Nottingham’s Queen Medical Centre, describing him as “improving and quite comfortable” and stating the obvious priority for him to recover as well and as quickly as possible.

Certainly it’s a relief to hear he’s had no relapses after reportedly his heart stopped twice during a fraught half time last night at the City Ground, where the player underwent four bouts of treatment with a defibrillator from paramedics, who along with the Leicester City medical team have rightly been praised for their prompt action in treating the falling man so effectively.

The game has been rescheduled for 18th September, a Tuesday night, meaning Leicester have had to postpone their league encounter with Ipswich Town.  Forest have not revealed ticket arrangements as yet, but have urged supporters present last night to keep hold of their ticket stubs, it would be a bit rich if they expected those who were present on the night to pay again, afterall!

As the transfer window draws to a close in a couple of days, the rumour mill has reignited.  David McGoldrick from Southampton remains the most credible rumour after it’s reported he’d favour a loan move to the midlands for family reasons – with Dobie being popularly linked with a switch to “the other Smoulds” by heading back to his native Scotland to Aberdeen.  Of course, there are a few more fanciful rumours sweeping the forums, as ever!

In lesser news the clashes between Forest and Leicester supporters has unfortunately also made some headlines.  The police suggested around 300 Leicester supporters visited the City Ground intent on causing trouble, which doesn’t surprise me given the charming convoy I encountered being escorted to the ground before the game, but I imagine we had our fair share of meatheads out in force as well.

As ever, if you read a Leicester fan site or forum you’ll find scathing criticism of Forest fans committing acts of violence with no provocation nor retailiation forthcoming, on Forest fan sites and forums the opposite – as ever, I’m sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle, with both sets of fans containing a sizeable element intent on causing problems for the police force.  Let’s hope there’s less of that kind of nonsense on 18th.

In more breaking news, Leicester have parted company with manager Martin Allen today as well – with no immediate replacement lined up.  Which is a shame really, as he clearly didn’t have his side firing on all cylinders during play – so it would’ve done us a favour if he were still there.  Fingers crossed the new manager still picks Hendersen in goal for the return cup tie!  It’s amazing what the shame of being outplayed by Forest can achieve!!

  1. (It’s amazing what the shame of being outplayed by Forest can achieve!!)

    Are you for real?
Just goes to prove you forrest fans are stupid

  2. It was a joke, familiar with those are you? Forest only has one R in it. Now who looks stupid? ;)

  3. Darren Fletcher has just stated on 5Live that a certain ginger haired loon is the front runner for the LCFC post. Good old Daz for stirring it up!! Oh for Megson to be in charge by the 18th – it may just encourage me to go!

  4. no doubt the violence was 50/50, as these things are…

but i must say, listening on the radio, to the forest fans singing ‘same old leicester always cheating’ after your own manager has announced why the game was postponed is a disgrace, and something you should acknowledge and disassociate yourselves from.

  5. you say forest fans dont cause trouble.leicester dont cause trouble that much nowadays .but every time we meet there is always trouble.and you lot dont hate us?

  6. Of course I disassociate myself from any such chanting. However, judging by the reaction of some of the away support too (cheering and chanting “1-0, and they called it off”, for example), it does support the notion that the PA wasn’t the clearest when Smoulds spoke at the end – plus his accent isn’t all that clear either – I do think a fair chunk of the inappropriateness from both fans in a verbal sense was driven by a lack of awareness of what was happening, or at least the severity of it.

But it did disappoint me. Certainly.

And to Fox 4 Life – there will always be an element, amongst any fanbase, who will latch onto anything as an excuse for a bit of a ruck. Our fanbase is no different – and there are fans amongst the Forest support who do hold Leicester as some kind of rivals. Personally, I don’t particularly. I’m sure we’re not universally despised to quite the same degree amongst your fans either.

  7. yes it was lack of awareness i could not understand aswell and i was listening on the radio. anyway lets all hope clive clark is up and running asap.

  8. I never understand this. We hate Derby, Leicester hate Derby – doesn’t that make us at least partially on the same side? We don’t hate Leicester at all – normally we pity you in your lowly estate, but we can’t do that any more as we’ve sunk even lower! Ah well, one day we’ll make it back to the Championship, and then – who knows?

And to leicestercity4ever – if you were there you would have to say that the half time scoreline was well merited – so yes, we did outplay you. Whether we can do the same in the replay remains to be seen. But in actual fact you were being beaten by a team who hasn’t won all season and is 18th in League 1 (33 places below you). Shame.

Looking at the forums, it is amazing how both sets of fans saw the other team’s fans causing trouble but not their own, mainly. I guess meatheads have short sight owing to being blind drunk and receiving too many punches to the head. We could all do without them. I agree with the Lady on Blue Army who said that you don’t get this violence at rugby matches. She’s right – you don’t (as much), yet the rivalry is as intense. It’s still a bloody stupid game, however.

  9. you keep saying we dont hate you i know you dont now.and thats because we were always 2nd best to you .now we are a league above you you just cant stand the piss being took out of you.after all you lot always gloated ay us when you were better .i did work with forest fans who always took the piss

  10. We’re very much used to the piss being taken out of us! We’ve been a joke for the last few years, let’s face it! As I said, some Forest fans probably would bait Leicester fans, I wouldn’t bother personally.

You’re generalising rather a lot regarding one or two former colleagues – that said, I work with all sorts of different football fans and we *all* gloat/take the piss out of each other. That doesn’t equate to rivalry, just general banter I think!

  11. whatever .in the mid 80s i was watching highlights on tv and forest were playing in league cup away at brighton you were top of div 1(now the prem)and all i could ear was forest singing leicester ere we come etc.them (your next match was us on sat)they were the days of your proper fans .when crowds were low in att .you must of started to follow forest when it came popular again .as you aint got a clue .ive seen at least 15 forest leicester games and they have always been highlycharged games.i bet you aint even stood in a old kop have you?

  12. i can also remember talking to a forest fan in the broadmarsh and him saying we cant wait till march and he said the date of the game when we play you.it was months before the match. i could go on but id rather talk to a fan who knows a lot more about football rivals and history than a someone who only knows about football since the prem was formed

  13. fox 4 life – it’s a shame you missed so many English language classes at school to attend those ‘pre-Prem’ games you seem so fond of! Or is your lack of basic grammar and punctuation down to one too many blows to the head during a heated rivalry ‘debate’?

  14. Couple of points…..

    1. No fighting at rugby? Lady on Blue Army must have missed the recent Hull derby in rugby league……(granted it was the exception, but it still happened).

    2. Fox 4 life; you are basing your arguement on a TV highlights show from the 80′s and a bloke you remember talking to? I hope that if you’ve ever heard us sing “There’s only one decent Lester” that you don’t think it’s about your team………

    3. I’ve never understood a word Smoulds has said in any interview!

  15. I’m not denying games can be highly charged, they have been for us recently again, ooh, Sheffield United, Bristol City and all manner of teams.

Doesn’t mean we hate them or there’s a rivalry.

I don’t stretch back to the mid eighties in terms of age, but have been on terraces all over the country following the Reds, as I said above, some of our fans do treat Leicester a little differently, in my experience I would say the majority do not.

    C’est la vie.

For someone who’d rather talk to a “proper” football fan, you spend an awful lot of time on here :)

  16. I would describe Leicester as local rivals. I remember going to Filbert Street in the late 80′s. There were thousands of Forest fans herded from the train station down a wide street (Wellford Road)surrounded by factory buildings. Some Forest fans took it upon themselves to put several windows through but the police would never have been able to pick out the culprits. The atmosphere was electric and it felt like you were part of an army marching into battle. I can’t remember who won the game but I do remember that we were next to their fans on the terrace and it rained coins on us for the entire duration of the game! Happy days…

  17. i dont understand. the proper fans were there when we were top of the league? and now it’s just plastic fans in league one. WHAT

  18. whos the twat that swollowed the english book .if you cant reply to my statement go and get bullied back in your SKOOL yard. nob head

  19. Hahahahah please keep posting “fox 4 life”….you are brightening my day!!
