Phew! It felt like it was never going to happen, now, didn’t it? I thought I was going to end up looking silly and they’d end up signing for dirty Lesda or something when it took until fairly late in the day for Forest to confirm we have indeed signed both Chris Cohen and Arron Davies from Yeovil for a reported £1.2m. This is, without a doubt, absolutely brilliant news - a huge well done to Smoulds and co. for a great piece of business, and also to the powers that be for sanctioning the spending!
Of course, Davies certainly we’ve all probably cursed in the past after his startlingly good performance in the playoff semi finals against us, but well, I suppose it’s a case of if we can’t beat ‘em, sign ‘em - and that’s not a concept I have a problem with! I’m very excited by both the two players arriving, but also the commitment it shows from the club to invest in quality.
Cohen is primarily a central midfielder, who can also play on the left, and Davies - as we will well remember - can operate on both flanks as well as up front, so they provide us with cover for positions in need of it. The suggestion that we’ve also denied the filthy foxes of transfer targets also provides a very significant cherry on the cake!
So with Matt Lockwood and Neil Lennon on board, us still in the hunt for Kelvin Wilson as well as the mysterious and presumably ongoing trial of Didier Agathe, this preseason is turning out to be very promising indeed. As season tickets go on general sale it will perhaps entice a few of those who have been abstaining into renewing, as well as attracting a few people to take the plunge.
If nothing else, it gives us something to be excited about above and beyond the theoretical discussions around us moving away from the City Ground in seven years! Which reminds me, I want to write about that in more depth when I get the chance.

The team is looking good I gotta admit. Will be interesting to see though how Calderwood accommodates a now much improved midfield of Commo, Coho, Lenno, Perchio, Sammy, McGugan and Davis?
As for further transfer activity…
Calls for a striker - Davis can play up front so not needed.
Calls for a right back - Agathe? Wilson can also play there if we get him
Just really need a back up goalie and we’re all set.
The only problem as far as I can see is that for a little while, we Forest fans dont really have much to moan or argue about…
Oh I forgot of course, what are we gonna call the Capital One Arena??!

when I lookat the squad now every formation I think of I can pick a very strong team for. when I look at last years squad that was not the case and may have meant we didnt have the personnel to implement CC’s tactics. Thats not to say CC wasnt naive cos he was and he should have picked tactics his team couldplay to.
he wanted versatility to allow him to play tactics to beat teams well now he has it and i hope he is successful with it.
for those of you who will claim that he employed negative tactics at Nothampton I would ask whether he had the personnel their that would allow him to play in any other way? I dont knowthe answer for definite but I do not hink we have been linked with any of their players other than defenders which to me would indicate he didnt think a great deal of their midfield or strike force!
I hope the fans just give him time to let them gell and get to understand each others games.

Excellent news, finally we’ll be able to mount a serious challenge on the Johnstones Paints Trophy!
Actually, a Forest vs Leeds final does sound pretty good.
