And for us as well - a one year deal with an optional extension. There’s confirmation on the Forest website and everything… cunning timing since the season ticket renewal packs went out yesterday, I suppose - but to have snagged a player who was captaining a side (albeit a Scottish one) in the Champions League last season, regardless of his age, is a great coup - particularly considering there was competition from Sunderland and Leicester in particular.
If nothing else he will provide cover for the ‘Ginger Midfielder’ role that Gary Holt vacated this year. Lennon should bring with him his firey passion for the game, and hopefully give some of our lacklustre players a suitable kick up the proverbial. If I was Ian Breckin I would be starting to wonder whether or not I’ll still have the captain’s armband next season too, because a player like Neil is very much captain material in my opinion.
So at last we’ve made a signing - and one which will hopefully bolster our attractiveness to other targets. The Leon Best rumours trundle ever onward, as do the Jason Crowe ones. The most interesting one I’ve heard so far is that somebody’s best friend’s uncle’s flatmate’s cousin’s clients saw Andy Cole at the City Ground recently. Hmmm. Believe THAT one when I see it!

Lennon is a great coup but on £12,000?? Another aging waste of money? I guess we’ll see.
As for the prospect of Jason Crowe flying down the wings next season…Vital NT’s view is:
“Whilst Cobblers’ fans do not want Crowe to leave, as with Chambers replacement Mark Hughes, we have tremendous faith that Gray will replace Crowe with a better player”
So as with the manager, it would appear that Forest’s “gains” are also Northamptons!!!

Makes you wonder, how much he would be on?????
Can’t make my mind up on this signing, I thought the club were looking for young, hungry players, will be interesting to see what CC says on the matter.
He could be a steadying influence on the yonger players but I can’t help think we have been down this route before.

Fantastic news. This should help us sign more player and stop some of the negs moaning.

Positive signing, I think this will prove to be an astute bit of business. This guy is a winner and know how to play football. I would love to see him as captain next season.
Kieran - how do you know what he is on ? I have not seen it mentioned anywhere ?
Anyway here is to the next signing and lets stay positive !

When it was first rumoured that Forest were interested in Lennon it was a figure being banded about the internet so obviously it is a best guess i admit.

I remember the guy from the heartbreaker against Porto in the UEFA Cup final. All I can say is that he seems to be very passionate and devoted to football, and I believe this kind of players can play all the way to the rocking chair. Besides, like NFFC says, he could very well whip our own guys’ behind if they fail to show commitment. His leadership skills are also a plus. That said, how about this long-awaited creative midfielder-right winger tandem…?

Nice to read in the evening post that Commons is still gutted about the Yeovil debacle. So are we Kris, so are we! In fact, some of us still can’t quite believe that having been seven points clear and coasting to promotion that we ended up in the frigging play offs in the first place.
So, please prove to us that you really care about the club and sign that nice 3 year contract you’ve been offered.
Who wants to play for Wolves anyway?!!!

This has to be a good signing. True, I want keen youngsters to come here and play their hearts out for the hope glory, or at least another step up the ladder, but it is this kind of player who will bring them on. Now we just need 8 more decent players…

the signing of neil lennon will hopefully attract other transfer targets that we have failed to capture in the recent past. i think it is great marketing work to get him as the first signing and without a doubt forest are using different strategys to attract their summer transfer targets.

Nice bit of marketing by Forest (for a change). I get home and find a season ticket renewal pack waiting for me on the same day its announced that we’ve signed an experienced pro who recently played in a european final. Blimey!
On the whole i dont think its a bad thing, it’ll certainly make a change to have a player in the middle of the park who hates losing. But as for captain? Nah, for me Chambers should have that.
Anyway, must be off, got a renewal pack to fill in!

WEST BROM ARE AFTER CELTIC FORWARD BEATTIE 750 000 Does Lennon think he is worth it? Can we go for him with the money from Harewoods transfer????
14 June, 2007 at 6:36 pm
It seems the promise of playing alongside Neil Lennon has not been enough to prize Jason Crowe (who?) away from the mighty Northampton town!
Good Grief.

It would certainly appear to be very much on the cards.
