Close-season cabin fever kicks in driving fans to demand the return of Collymore!

Close season does funny things to football fans, particularly when the year ends with an odd number as we have no World Cup or European Championship to tide us over until next season.  Of course, some fans can take solace in watching England lose their first game at the new Wembley stadium against Brazil later tonight, others might focus on holidays or on perhaps a few projects around the house.

Many will of course, as ever, spend their time cooking up elaborate and unlikely rumours for whatever strange reason that they do so – but perhaps the most deliriously strange group of fans I’ve encountered so far, only a matter of days after the season has ended, are a small group of posters from LTLF who seem determined to try to convince the various parties concerned that Stan Collymore returning to us as a player would be a good thing!

Now don’t get me wrong, Stan was the most exciting player I’ve ever seen in a Forest shirt – his ability to turn a defender, run at another before unleashing a piledriver from either foot will live long in my memory – indeed, my best memory of being a Forest fan was when Stan scored his second goal against Peterborough in Frank Clark’s first season, the goal that guaranteed us promotion back to the Premiership that day.

But that was all quite a long time ago.  Stan has – as anyone who has read is autobiography will know – had a very troubled time, and is a rather unbalanced and unpredictable character to have around the dressing room.  I don’t deny that I would certainly have some interest if he were to sign (which he won’t), but it would be a huge gamble and – if this little campaign hasn’t already achieved it – would leave us open as a club and a body of supporters for yet further ridicule and humiliation.

But still, in the spirit of fun – should you have sympathy for their cause, then they’ve set up a petition – which will probably get significantly more than my pathetic attempt to get tuesday night games moved back to wednesdays!

  1. If he is even at 25% of what he was, he would rip up league 1.

A man with his goal scoring ability would have no problem playing in the league Forest are currently in.

We have consistently finished in lower league positions since his departure. If he thinks he can cut it, why not give him a try.

I imagine if his trial game was made open to the public, it would get a bigger gate than Forest v Bristol Rovers next season.

  2. …remember seeing him at the CG against Villa – all game they were singing ‘collymore’s a villa fan….’ He then scored and celebrated in front of the villa!

    Was a suberb moment!

  3. I’d love it if Stan came back…just don’t hang around in the car park after the match hoping for an autograph though, he might get the wrong idea!

  4. Excellent Alex!!

  5. Victory! Hope victory for u! :)

  6. I would do anything to see Stan back at Forest… anything… I suggest this campaign should be supported with a song at the games. To the tune of ‘sit down Mourinhio’, I want all fans at the City Ground to be singing ‘Bring back Stan Collymore, Bring back Stan Collymore, We want Stan Collymore, so Bring back Stan Collymore’!! Before you know the club will bow to our collective pressure and he’ll be banging the goals in for us!!!

  7. Thanks for the publicity NFFCBLOG, you must admit the petition is going very well, either it’s not as mad as you claim or there are hundreds of us suffering “cabin fever”, still supporting Forest can do that to a person.

The campaign is the main feature on the bbc nottingham website as of Saturday morning, it is gathering speed quickly. Every one loves an underdog story. Keep up the good work and sign the petition, you know you want to.

  8. Stan is the best player I have ever seen in a Forest shirt, apart from one thing – his brain. He had pace, agility, left foot, right foot, good header, power, etc, but the mental capacity ofa six year old. We would have to accept that he will spend half the season in jail or suspended, but that should leave him enough games to get 20 goals next season. Bring it on! We want Stan the Man back!

  9. Are forest trying to buy freddie eastwood? He would be a good replacement for grant holt.Any comments or aree the rumours wrong…

  10. No chance on Eastwood, he turned us down before and would only go to a championship club.

  11. Stan was superb, definately the most gifted player I have seen in a Forest shirt, when his head was right. Would I want him back – No, Never.
Any news on the five players due in before end of June ?

  12. Has evryone seen this? http://www.myfootballclub.co.uk/

I can’t believe we are third in the list! NFFCBLOG – You should definitely do an article on this!!

  13. Well the criteria for buying a club rules Forest out !
It will never work ! You can’y run a club, pick a team etc by committee.
