Is Krissy on his way?

Word on the street (well, okay, words on the forums) and indeed in the gutter press are starting to hint that the ‘significant offer’ we made to Kris Commons is not sufficient to keep the midfielder with us next season.  Now, it’s worth noting at this point, that just as Gillingham have recently with Matty Jarvis, it’s important Forest show a strong intention to keep the player as if he goes on a ‘free’, we are still entitled to compensation due to his age.  Not that it will be a great deal.

There’s a myriad of clubs interested in him, Birmingham and Palace have been linked before, whether or not Kris will cut the mustard in the Premiership is questionable, given his inconsistency at this level – but certainly when properly motivated he could easily thrive in the Championship.  Here both Burnley and Stoke are apparently interested – which is interesting, considering he came to us from Stoke in the first place!

Kris is undoubtedly a talent, and will pull goals out of the top drawer fairly regularly as well as occasionally delivering a deadly set piece, but over the course of the season he’s proven more of a luxury than a necessity.  He is injury prone, he is inconsistent and he often looks slightly over-weight.  Whilst I would most certainly be sorry to see him leave, I don’t think it would be a disaster (assuming this time Smoulds actually acquires a replacement!).

Mark Arthur is quoted in today’s Post as saying that Forest have now made an improved and final offer to him, but all the signs suggest it won’t be enough for him and he’ll be off.  If so, good luck Kris, it’s occasionally been a pleasure to watch you over the last few seasons – and more frequently been a frustration, but it would be a shame for you to let your talent go to waste.

  1. did you stretch that picture is he really that f’kin fat!!?

  2. It’s shrunk slightly to fit the page better – but the dimensions should be the same – check for yourself, original picture linked below:

It’s not a particularly flattering one, really.

  3. You could see how gutted Kris was on Friday night when we lost. The way he played that night was a credit to him. He was a Forest supporter as a boy and you could see how upset he was at the final whistle. It signified to me that it was the last time we would see him in a Forest shirt. Kris is undoubtadly good enough to play at a higher level and at 23 he has to make the move to secure his future – after all another season at the City Ground will not guarantee Kris Championship football in a year’s time. He isn’t premiership quality yet as I believe Andy Reid was when he made the step up, however give Kris a couple of years at a higher level and we may well see him in the premiership.

As for Jack I am sorry to see him go. I think he played well in final couple of months and had Junior or Nathan been fit to partner him I feel he could have done even better upfront with the extra space they would have opened up in front of the back four the their pace. I still think he could have done a job for us next season.

As for the others that are leaving the banks of the trent I think that all Forest fans will agree that none of them have done a great deal.

If Kris is to go I wish him all the luck and thanks for almost getting us to Wembley! Same goes to Jack. I still can’t believe what happened on Friday! You Reds!

  4. nffc – I agree with your assessment. Too inconsistent and injury prone for me and not performed this season, drifts in and out of games and does look like he is carrying too much weight.
Having said all that I would like to think he may feel he owes ‘us’ a full consistent and injury free season ? Who knows.

  5. I’m not sure he will be a great loss to the team.

Whilst I appreciate his obvious talent, I’ve aways questioned his mentality at this level as I see him as a flair player and altho CC has got him working harder, I think (or at least I hope) there are better options for Forest in this division. We shall see. I will certainly watch his development with interest.

Sad to see Jack go as I used to piss myself at his “diving” antics in and aound the box. A great source of amusement for a group of us at the rear of the UBS. And somehow I’ve a feeling there won’t be many things to laugh at next season!

  6. if krissy is to go lets hope yeovil dont go up then we could go for davies he terrorised us over the 2 games

  7. “I’m not sure he will be a great loss to the team”

I agree that Kris has probably flattered to decieve a little in a Forest shirt. Too many injuries have really hampered his progress.

HOWEVER, with him likely to leave the club, and Nicky Southall and now Jack already gone I really do wonder where our creativity will come from next season.

If we continue to struggle to bring players in, a midfield of Perch, McGugan, Clingan and Bastians is what awaits us. That would not be good enough, I’m afraid.

  8. I’m not so sure about the assessment that he wont be a great loss to the team. Yes he has been inconsistant and all but during those rare moments of attacking flair and descisiveness that Forest have shown this season, he has been heavily involved, along with Nicky Southall. And when Southall left I think most would agree that the ship began to look lopsided.
Now the only player we have in the team who seems to want to actually get the ball on the deck is Lewis McG and to an extent Sammy.
So if you were all moaning the poor footballing, defensive horror show this season, just think about what it will be without our most attack minded midfielder.
We’d better get a like for like replacement if KC goes.

  9. Completely agree with frustraterRED. I thought Arron Davies looked like a cracking player. Having watched games in League 1 all season it is a so obvious that teams leave holes in the middle of the pitch to be exploited by pace. Aside from our injured front men and Perchy we lack pace all over the pitch. Forest were too negative all season and in the end it cost us. How many times can you rememeber our central midfield bombing on and running at the oppositions back four? Very rarely. We need to buy a creative midfield player with a bit of pace in order to challenge next season whilst a player like Davies would be fantastic. We need to buy players from League one and below as the sides who have gone up automatically this season and last have done. No more silly wages for past it players. We now have enough youth in the first team. A few experienced hard working pros mixed with a bit of lower league flare is what we now need. We want players that aspire to be in a higher league (scunthorpe, bristol city, blackpool, yeovil) instead of players who have been there already. Players that will challenge for every 50/50 ball and run their socks off because they are proud to play for Nottingham Forest.

  10. I have an overoptimistic feeling he will stay. Tubby midfielders that leave trentside don’t always acheive their expected potential (Webb -Reid) and as a Forest fan he must hurt at our present state. I would like to think if I wasn’t 16 stone and didn’t have the coordination of a drunk rhino I would be plying my trade at the club i loved the most not who was highest and paid most, but having only ever been offered a mobile phone contract i guess thats easy for me to say as money talks and if I was paid thousands a week I guess that wouldn’t be a Mazda in my drive and I wouldn’t go to Butlins every year. DAMN MY FAT USELESS TALENTLESS BODY

  11. what a team we could buy porter from oldham, hoolahan blackpool(if they dont go up)and that forest fan from rotherham cant remember is name.we also need to buy some decent defenders, cos if we are to sit back and defend it would be nice to have the players capable of defending.as anyone heard any transfer rumours yet?

  12. Kris going ? oh Bolox ! Is there any local lads good enough who might just want to play there hearts out for the Reds ? I heard on 5 live that when Celtic won the European Cup ALL players were came from a 30 mile radius of Glasgow! All right it was a different era and things change but it does make me ask questions about loyalty to todays teams. Seems to be club (TV) money or reputation and if you havent got either you are knackered. We have a bit of money, thanks Mr Doughty, and a bit of a reputation, so we should get some decent signings- shouldnt we ?????? If not why not??

  13. I agree BarrowRed – the present midfield, whilst very hardworking, just lack that inventiveness we really require. So its down to CC to TRY and bring someone in that will give us that.

Commons hasnt been lucky with injuries I agree but I always thought his effort was “streaky” to say the least and like I said, my opinion, is you can’t carry flair players at this level.

  14. Hoskins is the fella your looking for frustrated red.
All your arguements makes sense guys, but look at the players we’ve bought in so recently:

Tyson, Grolt, Agogo all from League 2 and the youngish Smith hungry for first team action from the Championship. Oh and young Luke from League 1. And to some extent Clingan and Bennett.

Only Wrighty and Prutton do not fit the bill but they are loans in to give experience more than anything else.

But basically, we ARE buying young, enthusiatic players wanting to play for a big club!!

  15. Yeah if he does go we will get compensation, its been banded around on 606 that this why we offered him a big contract, knowing he will turn it down. We would get more money if he was offered a big contract to stay apparently.
Personally I think he is going to join a long list of players who leave Forest, are rubbish, and come back after a few years.

  16. Personally i’ll be sad to see him go. Most of the time he’s played he has been easily the classiest player on the pitch, gets good crosses in and has a go at running at the full-back. I accept that sometimes he’s looked lazy and un-interested but hey, i’ll take that bearing in mind how lazy and un-interested (and talentless) half of our lot have looked this past few seasons.
Hopefully Felix will step up to the plate and play as well for us as he did for Gillingham.
Starting 11: Smith, Wes, Chambers, Felix, Perch, Mcgugan, Sammy, Agogo, Tyson….and 2 spaces left, reserve team full-backs maybe?? Oh, Holt, Bennett and SWD too. You see, the futures good!

  17. IF the rumours are true about best coming is cc trying to build a team out of local talent? get krissy to sign, then we have morgan, bennett we will see rumours about andy cole before too long.one last thing “COME ON YOU BAGGIES”
