Forest vs. Crewe Alexandra preview..

And so it comes to pass that I must divert my attention from Rotherham and return to the element of the fixture within our control – and that, of course, is our game against Crewe.  There’s an interesting ‘love triangle’ between us and the two teams mentioned however – a couple of years ago Crewe were on the brink of relegation before a current Rotherham squad member scored a memorable goal (for Forest), and thus consigned Gillingham to relegation instead.  How we would love Eugen Bopp to be as decisive again (assuming he’s not still injured!).

So, three straight league wins leave us a mere point behind Bristol City in second, which is so close – but yet such a gulf with only one game remaining.  Crewe are playing for nowt but pride, having finished safely in midtable, with no fear of relegation nor hope of the playoffs – so will be playing without pressure.  Except for the fact that it’s the legendary Dario Gradi’s last game as first team manager – they’ll be wanting to sending him off in style.

On the injury front, Wes remains sidelined along with the other long term casualties – his ankle injury proving worse than initially feared.  Crewe don’t have any fresh injury worries at all.  All eyes will be on the Commons and Lester combination for Forest, but let’s not forget about Luke Varney in the Crewe side – who’s netted 25 goals this season.

Now of course, few will forget our 4-1 demolition of Crewe at Gresty Road earlier in the season – with Nathan Tyson’s ‘perfect’ hattrick, but sadly I can’t envisage a repeat performance infront of a bumper home crowd.  The pressure will be on us, and as fans will be desperately keeping track with goings on at Ashton Gate.  It’s either going to be a great day or a disappointing one!

Just to run over the permutations again – if we win, and Bristol don’t – we’re up in 2nd.  If we don’t win, Blackpool could overtake us by winning.  All in all, we need to win – and through the power of touching the badge, and invoking the mantra of the Chuckle Brothers, we need Rotherham to pull a rabbit out of the hat and at least hold Bristol to a draw.

  1. Have a little faith lads, do our job and see what happens…
After all 3 games ago we were all doom and gloom, now at least we have a glimmer of hope. Mind you, 7 points clear atchristmas etc……..
Be interesting to see how the crowd behave. As a pessimist i can see half the crowd getting anxious and getting on the players backs. So its up to the optimistic souls among us to sing loud, and constant. Get the place rocking.
And for crying out loud forest, get the music and stewarding right. Music to inspire, sing along to and celebrate to, and the stewards to let us.

  2. I’ve got faith!

  3. Come on lads (and girls of course, let’s not be sexist) and get behind the players tomorrow. We need a big crowd, a big atmosphere, and, to use a cliché, to be the 12th man. YOU REDS!
