No, your eyes are not deceiving you – Ian Breckin hasn’t been called up to the England squad – but you’d think it at a glance (well, red shorts aside!) if you only half checked out the long-awaited new Forest away kit. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice shirt – but it’s the same as the England kit! Much like our home shirt strongly resembles the England away kit.
Now I realise that there’s lots of kits for manufacturers like Umbro to process through their sweat shops*, but really does there have to be such a limited selection of choices – why would a Forest fan who has already invested in a national shirt opt to purchase an all-but identical version for their club as well? Well, they probably will, but why should they be expected to?
Of course – the opposite of this is when there was a phase of striking originality at least for well known teams – who can forget our yellow away kit with a Ribena-vomited Forest badge down the right shoulder? Or the never-worn lime green third kit? Who could ever cast from their mind the wonderfully original (sic) tartan away kit Notts County once sported (no, really!). I wouldn’t want to return to those dark days, but really – are we to be subjected to nothing but template kits with our club’s colour-scheme and badge differentiating it from anyone else’s?
That said, I’ll probably still get one!
* I should probably put allegedly on here somewhere, just to be safe.

Every company does it now tho don’t they. You can guarantee that derby’s new adidas shirt will be identical to all the other adidas teams out there.
Oh aye, Umbro are certainly not the only ones who do it, it just lacks a bit of imagination for me!
I quite like this one for a change – wouldn’t ever buy the England top but could well see myself getting this one…
dreamt last night that bristol city drew… but we drew as well.
Thats not a dream Sam – thats a bloody nightmare!
The bottom line is we need to be like Elvis i.e “taking care of business” IF and only IF Brizzie don’t f*ck up then at least it wasn’t our fault.
Ignoring the fact of course we WERE 7 points clear at one point!!
