Maybe it’s because I’m still pissed off about the inept performance last night, but rather than customary excitement about potential transfer bids in the Evening Post today, I’m angry. It’s a classic case of awful performance, quick, let’s come up with something to placate the natives – because they’re not very happy. So apparently we are again canvassing Birmingham to bring Neil Danns to the club on loan.
Apparently Danns is due some kind of show-down with Steve Bruce about his future at Birmingham, where he hasn’t really featured all that much since moving there – so perhaps if that goes badly (from a “you’re not in my first team plans” point of view) this may make him reconsider a move to Nottingham which he is reported to have not been keen on before – although reports suggest t’was Birmingham who rebuffed our initial bid for the player.
Smoulderwood is also quoted in the same article denying any move being made for Southampton’s Nottingham-born Leon Best. Although he doesn’t exactly suggest that he won’t make one. An odd idea – our problem, which is patently obvious for all to see, is not up front – it is all midfield related, be it our chronic lack of width or the complete absence of any creativity. Couple that with a questionable workrate exhibited by numerous players last night, some half-arsed rumour about us moving again for Danns, I’m afraid, does not redress the balance – Forest!
Actually sign him, and I might be more forgiving.

Typical Forest mate, I think it is about time us fans had our chance to voice our opinions to someone at the club. How many more games am I going to go where the Club and players let down the hard working fans.
It is embarrassing. I paid £24 quid to watch that crap last night, I have never been so bored in my whole life. To me it was weird all round in the City Ground last night, I thought the atmosphere was dead which was weired bearing in mind Saturdays result.
Now I am no marketing genius but surely Forest knew last nights game was on the same night as a champions league night, why don’t they reduce the ticket prices to £10 – £15 and get a full house behind them.
I think it could be an interesting summer at the City Ground, if they don’t go up which now looks very unlikely, will they reduce ticket prices like a load of clubs have already, I doubt it very much, also you know for a fact that if they do go up then it will be the fans who once again will have to pay for it, even though it is the club and players who have got us in this mess in the first place. Maybe this why they are yet to announce anything.
Don’t want to sound too downbeat but that was one of the lowest recent attendences last night, dread to think what the crowds will be like next season if they don’t go up. I for one will not be going down again this year or next season unless I see a massive change in performance attitude and ticket prices.
I have got to the point now where I couldn’t give a shit where we end up.
What is the point????????
For Mr B – How can you say ‘us fans’? You don’t have a season ticket, you will only go if we are tonking every team 5-0 and you will not lend support if we are not performing well. Perhaps you should reevaluate what being a fan is all about…There are far too many ‘fans’ who slag the players off and boo during games – we need confidence and support to perform at our best and the ‘fans’ need to start to take some responsibility.
Oh and why is it ‘very unlikely’ that we won’t go up? We are second are we not??
I am of the opinion that Calderwood was never the right man for the job in the first place, without wanting this to sound like a negative fan who crawls out of the woodwork whenever we hit a bad patch, but lets face it, we have been rubbish all season.
Getting Calderwood was always the safest bet for Doughty, after all he fit the description of “young up and coming manager,” but what he failed to do was get the correct one. Assuming those rumours had of been true regarding Roy Keane, why on earth did we not fight tooth and comb to get him, simple because he was a strong personality with balls is not a yes no man like, lets say Calderwood, typical Doughty move.
I’m afraid until this board and management are removed, please expect this kind of show for a long while yet, that unless come the end of the season, us fans for a change unite and do something about it, at least a protest.
You can forget the play off’s, and when that’s finished, so will the “so called building for the future.” With the sale of players such as Tyson, Clingan, Perch, the departure of Common’s, Prutton, us ever loyal fans will be left nothing more than a crumbled club that face many more years of this embarrassing situation we have endured thanks to Doughty.
I will remain silent now till the end of the season, but boy will I be voicing my anger come May, gutless pigs.
Agree definitely that there’s no point in any fan action until the end of the season – we are still with a shout of automatic promotion, not that I think it’s a particularly convincing shout, but it’s too late in the season to be calling for the manager… I must say Smoulds hasn’t really convinced me yet, although I’ve not quite written him off either.
If we end up in the playoffs then I really can’t see us going up.
Matt,
You do talk some rubbish.
Roy Keane was never going to come to Forest. He had already been tapped up to take the reigns at Sunderland with their multi-million pound backers. Forest just couldn’t compete.
And before you blame Doughty for not investing similar money, or allowing other investors in… Do you see many billionaires queueing up to buy Doughty out?
“Do you see billionaires queuing up to buy Doughty out,” like you fucking know there wouldn’t be any interested parties should things happen.
You know just as much as my self, so my rubbish is a little like yours, wouldn’t you agree?
All I am saying is, I’m not prepared to put up with this shit for another season, many apologies for wanting change, like Derby got and like Leicester got.
People can say fans who mock Doughty have no foundations to cast such aspersions, though I pity the fools who fall for this indefinite torture under the leadership of Doughty and Arthur, or if you like (Mulligan & O’Hare).
Message to Scott, I have had a season ticket for the last 5 years apart from this one, how much more shite do you expect us to watch week in week out, I have been 10 games this season , I have seen forest score more than one goal on one occassion, against Charlton in the CUP. Yes really only go when we are tonking teams 5-0.
If you are happy to pay over the odd prices to watch utter shite each week then carry on, i have supported this club through thick and thin and all I am saying is I can’t be arsed anymore, it is boring and depressing watching over paid players perform pathetically each week.
So shut up
I never knew having a season ticket made you more of a fan; I’ll have a punt at 16yrs?
I suppose overseas fans don’t count at all then… Even though we have to take stick from all ManUtd, Liverpool and Chelsea yoyos who were not born BC… Very nice. Tell you what mate, I envy you guys for being so close to the Club and have the chance to buy a season ticket in the first place, and on the other hand I don’t envy you at all for booing your team two days after falling in love with it for the umpteenth time this season… Some people here sound very much like football fans in my country… Just pathetic. Oh yes Mr B, before I forget: What do you mean if “they” go up? I thought it was “we”???
Of course they count
It is fair to say though, that both Forest’s league position – and results – are misleading to the distant observer – performances haven’t (saturday and Crewe away aside, when I was very happy indeed) been up to scratch even when results have been positive.
To skip up a few comments – I’m not adverse to Mark Arthur undergoing criticism – the day to day running of the club is his responsibiilty; as far as I’m aware Nigel Doughty is relatively “hands off” on that front, certainly since he took over we are looking at our worst spell in the club’s history – I think I’m right in saying we have never spent more than two years in the third flight before.
just a small point. why were forest playing last night and not tonight? since megson (remember him?) switched our midweek games to tuesday night’s the crowds have been small, the atmosphere terrible and we have hardly won a game. and we were clashing with the champions league on terrestrial tv rather than sky so it is more likely to damage the crowds.
i have done a quick canvas of people and have found a big majority who find it hard to go to tuesday night matches because of their jobs but would be more inclined to go on a wednesday. the post-weekend rush is over for many people by then.
also, calderwood made the point at the weekend that home records win promotion. surely it is better to give our players an extra day to prepare for home midweek games in that case.
floodlit football at forest used to be something special and it should be returned to wednesdays immediately in my opinion.
Well, there goes the game advantage. But don’t you worry, I’m no moaner. Oh no, not me. I’m proud that we can’t beat Doncaster Rovers at home in the 3rd division. For me, losing at home to Doncaster Rovers in the 3rd division makes me proud and is fitting for an ex-European champion club. So no moaning, because let’s face it, this 3rd division is a tough league and any club the size of Nottingham Forest would struggle to beat Doncaster Rovers at home in the 3rd division. Let us face the facts, even such a massive glorious, trophy ridden, world famous club such as Derby would struggle in the 3rd division. ‘Hold on a mo’ you say, ‘didn’t they win away in a must win game last night night to keep themselves on track in the 2nd division?. True, but, they were not playing at home to Doncaster Rovers in the 3rd division and we all know what a tough, world class division the 3rd division is. So, I just want to say one more time in case you don?t believe me. I?m not moaning, I?m proud that the ex-European champions COULD NOT BEAT DONCASTER ROVERS AT HOME IN THE 3RD DIVISION. Brings a tear of joy your eye
I am begining to see more and more people on various forums calling for Doughty’s head, I too am starting to warm to the idea, that man has done nothing for this club, 30M blowout that cost us dearly.
It’s time Nigel for you to send out the signals, test the water, i’d rather take a gamble then put up with your bullshit, you my friend have sealed your lasting legacy, a whole bleeding decade.
Come the end of the season I strongly recommend we as fans unite for and call for change, take a chance, at least make your views be known. the longer we stay quiet the longer we will be subjected to this mess.
It’s coming, beleive me it’s coming.
[...] Forest PR is as predictable as it is rubbish! [...]
it all makes very depressing reading. Like we are doomed. Well, maybe if we dont gain promotion we will be. But its all in our hands now, its up to the players who have got us into this situation to keep at it and earn the right to play 1st div (championship) football next season and us the fans to sing our hearts out and drive them along.
Only when we know our fate can we really start the call for NDs head, or for CC to be replaced. I do agree that CC seems tactically unaware on a regular basis, and the motivational skills could be better. But he’s here, and will be all season, so lets get behind him and the team and get out of this poxy division.
And deano, spot on. To spend hard earned cash to watch a top flight team like us and the mighty doncaster…..nah, you know what, fuck it. ND, you aint having my money next season if i have to endure this again (4 season tickets, plus food etc, petrol…actually, i’ll be very well off!) maybe wander down the local park and watch some half-tidy amatuers having a go…
Right then. Nigel Doughty has been involved with this club for ten years. Owner for about the last five? Which way have we gone? down. And further down. Hes had his time. Hes clueless (from a football point) and more importantly AMBITIONLESS. No one, I repeat no one can argue with that. As it stands, we will have a 1 in 4 chance of being promoted at the end of the season, this after being seven points clear.
Colin Calderwood is doing his best to get the sack. The reason we wont go up this season is because we are in desperate need for new players, particularly in midfield. We the fans have seen this for months on end – but still players have not been brought in. You’d have thought that Jarvis and Danns were the only two players outside of Nottingham! Time is desperately running out. This squad is simply not capable of gaining automatic promotion, we have witnessed too many false dawns. Does the manager see this ??
See you at Glandford Park
I’m with you all the way Ricardo, I am sick to death of this plight!
I really hope come the end of the season when we have failed to win promotion the pro Doughty brigade come on-side and stand up and channel the energies in a direction to remove this cretin from power.
