Prutton is back!

After a seemingly ridiculous courtship, Forest have finally confirmed they have indeed secured the services of David Prutton for a second spell at the club.  The battling midfielder is of course a product of our youth academy, he’s signed initially on loan until the end of the season – where he’s out of contract with Southampton (thanks Tom), presumably if we got promotion then we will enjoy his services beyond this season.

Prutts has Premiership experience with Southampton, but has fallen out of favour with manager George Burley after spending time out with an ankle injury earlier in the season.  It’s thought we pipped both Hull and Leeds to signing him, and I’m sure both he and the fans will be keen to rekindle the relationship they had during his first spell here, when he was somewhat of a fans favourite.

Hopefully this won’t be the end of the transfer news today or tomorrow – but certainly the signing appears to have given the message boards a huge lift in the post-Chelsea gloom, so well done to Smoulders and crew for sticking to their guns and delivering a signing that has sparked genuine excitement.  Having said that, I for one won’t be happy if this is our only activity during the transfer window.

Welcome back, Prutts – although the referees are really shit at this level, so try not to hit any of them!

you have got the terms of the deal completely wrong mate, he’s on loan until the end of the season and if we get promoted, he will sign on a bosman free transfer so he will cost absolutely nothing (bar wages)

    Great news….!!

Excellent news. Possibly calculated to wait after the predicted chelsea drubbing so think he was coming all along but hope there is still more to come!

He is a brilliant player – way too good for this level! I remember when Vialli as manager of Chelsea made an approach for him after we played them in the league cup years ago. Describing him as a battling midfielder doesn’t do him justice. He is one, he closes players down as well as anyone, but he’s also got good vision, passing and shooting. He can play as a winger too so should provide an alternative to Southall should the need arise. I would like to see him establish himself and then take us forward as captain (once he’s proved his temperament).

    Chambers has also signed!

Doughty should never have sold him in the first place, you NEVER sell your best players when your (supposedly) serious about promotion. Silly that we’ve got him on loan he’s no risk at this or at Championship level and we’re better poised to sign him now rather than the summer where (hopefully after a good end of season with us) clubs will be all over him to get him for free fair enough if he signs in the summer we’ve saved outselves 100-250k but i doubt we’ll sign him in the summer promoted or not caus that’ll just mean Mr. Doughty admitting was wrong to sell him in the first place and Mr. Doughty cant that now

  10. nffc Says:

Hmm, tis a point – but at the time of selling Prutts we were fooked financially, and Doughty didn’t have full control of the club.

Plus he’s certainly not proven to be a £2.5m player so far, so all in all, it was probably good business – had we replaced him adequately, which of course, we didn’t.

  11. CW Says:

I agree with your point about him being a £2.5million player, we werent that financially bad at the time, Doughty had kindly “loaned” us some money at an interest rate and re-payment plan he’s very keen not to tell us about plus we’d already sold Jenas and offloaded all the high premiership wages with the exeption of David Johnson

as you say if we’d replaced him adequately then great, I would have loved to see him stay and us bring in Huckerby on loan anyway.

I dont expect but really hope we sign him permanently, temprement or not hes a fantastic player

  12. Pete Says:

Let’s hope he is keener to stay then the weeks before he left for Soton then.

As I remmebr, he burned his bridges like Crossley did, imtimating the club wasn’t big enough for him.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I’m right.

  13. CW Says:

I remember him saying some unsavory remarks about the club after leaving though can’t say i know if he’d said anything before leaving us i cant really remeber (a fleeting memory combined with too much alchahol)

Good for Prutt, at least Forest is willing to take him on.
