Check out Gary Crosby’s quick throw-ins, and Pearcey shoving over the defender before scoring a deft outside-of-the-left footer… aaah, the memories. It’s great to watch, but also a stark reminder of the differing fortunes of the teams set to face each other on Sunday.

I hope Chelsea’s defending is that poor on Sunday
That was MAGIC . . . . I DID enjoy that . . . . Hope springs eternal !!
Look at how quickly we passed the ball, how the players moved off the ball and how quickly we attached – if only we could do that now!!
thermopyl – I was thinking exactly that. It cant be hard can it, running around a little. It doesnt ask for any more ball control – just fitness.
If we play like we do week in week out and sit around waiting for Grolty or Agogo to find some space we’ll be slaughtered for sure.
So its perhaps suprising that Mr Bevan of the bbc says we should play the way we usually play…

I just wonder if you can get anymore condiscending?
That makes me feel old! We had our season tickets in Main stand, block C, Row M, seats 94-95 at the time, so the commentry teams were right behind us and the camaras right above. If I’ve got the right season, didn’t we beat Leicester 6-2 the following home game? Shilts got some encouragement from the crowd, because he had absolutely sod all to do – but he was still doing his warm up exercises around the 6-yard box, right up till the last minute. Well, there’s still time to sign Keane, Clough, Pearce, Woan and Crosby before Sunday – after all, none of them are cup-tied, are they?
Surely it would be Sutton/Crossley in goal and not Shilts! He left us in 1982!
The team was Crossley, Pearce, Walker, Chettle, Charles, Parker, Keane, Woan, Glover, Crosby, Glover
We scored 16 goals in 3 games spread over 10 days…..
AND Gary Charles making a mazy run………somethings never change !!!!
I remember going to this game – it was a couple of weeks before the FA Cup Final IIRC and Forest were absolutely purring! I think Gavin Peacock was playing for them that day – be interesting to see if the BBC remind him about that on Sunday…
Oooops! Re: last entry….Glover didnt have a double (one was bad enough!) – I missed out Young Nige! Apologies!
1982?!? That makes me feel even older! Well one season when Shilts was still here we beat chelsea and leicester on (I think) successive home matches 6-0 and 6-2. There must be a database that can tell you when – anyone know of one? Hoping for less than 6 goals on Sunday…
Try http://www.bridportred.co.uk – all the stats you could wish for!
Thankyou, nffc, that’s a brilliant resource! Well it shows you how your memory plays tricks. The season seems to have been 86/87, and on successive weekends we beat Aston Villa (not Leicester) 6-0 and then Chelsea (away) 6-2 with Sutton in goal (not Shilton)! Also, we didn’t move to the Main Stand until the early 90′s, so we were in the uper tier at the opposite side of the ground then! So 0 out of 10 for me, although I can see it clear as day in my mind! Mind you, there were plenty of games where Shilton did very little except keep himself warm – we were a good side then.
