I’ve heard far more tales of woe though – just search eBay for “Chelsea Forest” and you’ll find listings of people wanting tickets because they failed to get one online

I suppose it’s a symptom of our fanbase; they don’t have to treat the fans fairly because even if they piss a few off enough to vote with their feet, there’s plenty left to pick up the slack – it’s a dangerous gamble for a club in Forests’ position though – because with promotion certainly not guaranteed, another season or two in League One will see that fanbase erode naturally.

Football clubs in general are blessed with ‘customers’ who have an inhuman level of ‘brand’ loyalty – as such I suppose in pure black and white accounting terms, it’s a waste of investment to work on maintaining or – heaven forbid – improving customer satisfaction. (I hate referring to fans as customers, but that’s how the club see us, alas).

I’ve lost count of the number of times over the years I’ve had “issues” with the ticket office. I’ve always said the fans, as far as Forest are concerned, are a total bloody inconvenience!
