Another tricky weekend fixture for the Reds, who face 8th place Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. As with Yeovil Town last week, we face the Swans on good form – they’ve lost only one in the last eight (and that was away from home), and of course they pipped us on the giantkilling stakes my beating Sheffield United at Brammall Lane as we were beating Charlton Athletic. The least said about our league form the better, but consecutive wins against Charlton and Yeovil will hopefully leave the Forest squad in a positive frame of mind.
Sammy Clingan is still out suspended – this is his last game out after the incredibly dubious red card against Oldham on the 1st January. Nicky Southall is available after serving a one game suspension against Yeovil Town. Commons is still out with his troublesome hamstring, Pedersen is back to take his place on the bench, and Lewis McGugan is fine to play – although if he does will be wearing a Carl Froch style gum-shield, which is quite amusing!
Unfortunately for us, Swansea are able to call on fatty Lee Trundle, who has been suspended for three games – and has been practising in some nonsense Welsh cup or other. They will be without Kristian O’Leary who is the latest on the suspension list for the Swans. Certainly we’ve learned to our peril in the past that Lee Trundle is the one to watch in their squad – rarely puts in many miles, but is often on hand to apply a touch of genius and get a goal from little opportunity.
In September we met Swansea at the City Ground, and despite going a goal behind came back to win the match 3-1. Rory Fallon netted for the Swans, whilst we enjoyed a Perch equaliser, before goals from Commons and Agogo to win us the game. Swansea pipped us into the playoffs last season, and will be keen to improve on their currently placing of 8th in the league.
Forest have a great chance to capitalise on what looks like a wobble in form from Scunthorpe – we already have a game in hand, and are only a point behind them – The Iron face a tricky trip to Doncaster Rovers, if the Reds are able to beat Swansea and they drop any more points we could find ourselves top with a game in hand – that said, it isn’t going to be easy – I’m pleased Southall is available again as the Thompson/Curtis combination on the right against Yeovil was less than convincing, but this will be a tough trip – I can see a draw at best for us.

I agree. 2-2 or 1-1, depending on how much control the defences have. I’d like to see a win, but Swansea are too good a side for us to just brush past. Of course, we often raise our game against tough opponents in good form. Lee Trundle is one of those annoying players who always scores against us even if they’ve been on a shocking run of form and have had both legs amputated and are currently in Papua New Guinea.
