Ker-ching! Forest in the money?

Our FA Cup game with Chelsea is apparently already set to net us up to half a million quid – a potential £350k for our share of gate receipts along with some cash for the television rights for the game.  Not to mention TV fees and prize money from the previous rounds – it’s quite a lucrative cup run, which hasn’t been budgeted for – and well, it comes at a handy time since we’re hopefully looking to strengthen the side.

Also there is a whispering around the world of West Ham that Wigan are looking to buy Marlon Harewood – because in Emile Heskey they don’t feel they have enough ‘headless chicken’ in their team (I do Marlon a disservice, because at least he does have the occasional good day too!).  But, bitchy comments aside, I seem to recall that we agreed a fairly hefty % of sale fee with West Ham when they took Harewood from us – I forget the actual number, but I’m sure it was around 20%.

If we assume the £4.5m figure is accurate, then that means West Ham have made £4m on the player, which equates to £800k for us – if it happens, of course.  So that’s another potential source of unbudgeted revenue that we could be in for.  Unless West Ham pull a sneaky and negotiate a £500k plus player(s) type deal, although I suppose we could insist on 20% of their body mass, or something!

  1. Never new about the sell on clause!! Would be a nice bonus

  2. I can’t find any proper confirmation of it, I’m sure there was an agreement though.

Bigger picture though, best we can hope for is £800k should he go for £4.5m and the sell-on was 25% of anything over £500k.

Then think about us selling him for £500k, buying Marlon King for £950k (so we’re £450k, and a decent striker down already!), then sold him off for around £500k, putting us £900k down and no striker at all.

So even if we get the most we can hope for, we’re still £100k and a player out of pocket. Or is that crazy maths?

  3. going well this season, i dont think u would believe someone if they said in the summer where we would be in mid-january, pretty good

  4. Well, put this money together with the £500,000 they reckon we’ll make from playing Chelsea and….WHY NO SIGNINGS YET???

Sorry, getting a bit bored of waiting, as here in Peterborough, the local team seem to be buying everything that moves!

  5. I’m hoping Smolderwood (can we still call him that???) is playing his cards EXTREMELY close to his chest and a couple of half decent players (a midfielder pleaseeeeeee!!!!) will emerge from nowhere to bolster our promotion push!

Unless I’m reading CC all wrong, I think hes a real canny manager who keeps his own council. He certainly doesnt appear to give much away and if you listen to him talk to the Press, whilst he says a lot, he actually says nothing at all!

  6. agree with the comments about the Marlons fiasco being bad business… everyone knew it was risky at the time and it was confirmed when after a few months all Marlon Queen had done was get sent off for fighting (i left the ground early & disgusted that day)

it would be very nice to get some money back out of it though, fingers crossed West Ham don’t pull a swifty – i’m guessing Curbs & Magnusson don’t want to waste time though so it should be all good.

also totally in agreement with the comments about signings – a creative midfielder is a MUST. sod all this talk about Prutts coming back, he’d only be backup/clone for Clingan anyway – we need someone with a bit more quality who can open up defences & act as a playmaker. think Gareth Williams kind of style but (a lot) better.
