Commons eyed by Premiership teams?

In what I suspect is a bit of lazy journalism, this website suggest that Blackburn are leading “the chase” to take Commons away from the City Ground.  It moots a bid of £450k with add-ons, which is derisory – and also links Wigan and recently despatched Charlton with interest in the injured winger.  The mantle of “best player in League One” is also a highly questionable one.

Kris is, of course, out of contract at the end of the season – so will be pretty devalued as we’ve seen before – both to our benefit and cost – the ‘compensation’ system for young players who are out of contract is a farce.  We lost Gareth Williams for far too little, and probably paid under the odds for Commons himself when we acquired him from Stoke City.

If the journalist in question had his finger a bit more on the pulse, it would all have been about Nathan Tyson – who had a great game against Charlton in Commons’ position – the option of playing him deeper giving rise to a Collymore-esque run at the Charlton defence that unfortunately Jonathan Fortune was just able to thwart as Tys was running out of steam.

  1. Lets just hope whether it’s Commons or Tyson in question that neither one of them goes. Too many of our so called best players have gone, some understandable because of the position we’re in, but at the min things are looking good with promotion so lets hope they stay

  2. It’s part of life at League 1 level unfortunately, just have to make sure that when good players go, we’ve got good replacements lined up, much like we did when Reidy left and we had Commons in reserve.
