“Grant Holt is not for sale” screams the back page of the Nottingham Evening Post today, which is the news the majority of us wanted to hear in the wake of fresh rumours linking the striker with moves to Bristol City, Carlisle and Leyton Orient. Given that it appears Neil Harris is on his way out and the likes of Jack Lester are out of contract soon, losing our leading scorer in the transfer window would seem like folly in anyone’s language.
Smoulders confirmed that he has turned down approaches from both Bristol and Carlisle, he said the following:
“At the moment we wouldn’t entertain anyone”
(I think he’s talking about Grant still, but he could be talking about recent performances!!)“We’ve had phone calls about Grant, as we’ve had with three or four other players and we’ve said no.”
It was only two months ago that Forest accepted a bid from Bristol City for the striker, so clearly he’s impressed sufficiently in that time to win around Smoulds – which will please supporters no end, who were mystified that we were attempting to offload the hardworking player despite his leading the goalscoring charts. Smoulderwood did always say at the time that he didn’t want rid of Grant, but it never really sounded too convincing, but perhaps he was, after all, telling the truth!

Some good news at last, by far one of the best players we have. Lets build a strong team not get rid of one. Hoe we sign some new players soon
Good news – if its true? The transfer window makes for more fairy tales than Hans Christan Andersen…….
I like Holt – reminds me a bit of Tommy “Try Hard” Gaynor. Doesnt always achieve everything he would want to – but give you 110% every time hes pulls on the Garibaldi shirt.
Normally I’m cautious of the Evening Post, but they have quoted the manager directly on the matter, so hopefully this won’t be a misleading story.
Plus offloading Harris relieves some of the pressure for places upfront (admittedly quite a small amount of pressure, considering). With Commons injured too, Grant is likely to feel more secure.
Egor – you’re right. Tommy Gaynor… now there’s a name from the past. He spent much of the game on his backside (not as much as that permed chap we bought from Cov City who could ONLY score with a bicycle kick – what was his name?), but he had enough talent that defenders had to watch him, and that created space for the other reds. From what I’ve seen of Forest this season, that’s how he works with Agogo and Commons – apart from when we opt for hoof-it-out-of-defence-to-Agogo tactics.
Ian Wallace was his name, I remember now. In the days after Trevor Francis when Cloughie had a fetish of buying £1million strikers.
Thank God for that
