Smoulds gracious in victory..

I suppose it’s easy to be gracious when you win, but Colin has paid tribute to Salisbury for the manner in which they played the the game over the 180 minutes with us.  He makes a fair point, they did try to pass it around and whilst there was little in the way of end product tonight, they certainly belied the gulf that separates the teams in league status – certainly by all accounts they gave a better showing than Crewe did at the weekend!  Smoulders said:

“I went into the dressing room to speak to their manager and congratulate the players because I thought they were excellent.

“We knew we would have to work for it. A lot of people will respect Salisbury for the manner in which they have played over the two games.

“They didn’t come here and try and turn the game into a war or a tactical battle – they came to play and that speaks volumes for them.

“I thought we had to be quite good to win, which is an indication of how well they did.”

It’s partly lip-service, but he’s right in many ways too – and it does no harm to say something nice after a game like this.  He then went on to speak passionately about the importance of our game against Orient on saturday, and the need for the fans to back the side to the hilt to help the mighty reds carry on their post-Bournemouth form – although I’m not sure our meatheads in yellow jackets erm, esteemed stewards will be too pleased to hear him say “I don’t want fans just coming hear and putting bums in seats!”… you heard him folks, stand up, ‘coz Smoulders said so!

  1. Now, now young man. Some of us ‘Meatheads in Yellow Jackets’ are actually quite articulate human beings (with feelings too!).

Admitedly, I’m not a steward at Forest however…

  2. Hehe… I’m actually very fond of a couple of the stewards near me; but also get to observe some of the others with distain – as with all generalisations though, you’re quite right to pull me up on it :D
