Moore wants to keep Thommo…

John Thompson has apparently impressed in his four game loan spell with Tranmere Rovers, prompting Ronnie Moore to tell the press he’d like to certainly extend the utility man’s loan beyond the expiry of the deal on friday.  In the four appearances Thompson has made for the nearly-Scousers they’ve registered four wins – he’s been playing well, and rather uncomplimentarily been referred to as “another body” during the usually busy Christmas period – I’m sure it wasn’t meant that badly!

Thommo is one of those players who I wouldn’t be surprised to see depart the City Ground in January on a permanent move, he doesn’t seem to figure in Colin’s plans, and given his age he’s rapidly running out of time to really make his mark in football – I’d be sorry to see him go, as I can see merit in him still, but I would acknowledge that the time might be right for both himself and us for him to move on and get some regular football – which I’m sure he could do at Tranmere, and get himself a regular position instead of just being used to plug in gaps across midfield or defence.

Certainly I would expect that Forest will allow the loan move to be extended – it makes sense at this stage for both club and player.
