Calderwood denial sparks rumour frenzy..

No sooner does Colin Calderwood try to pour cold water on any suggestion we’re seeking to add to our squad in the aftermath of being soundly thrashed by Scunthorpe, and the rumour mills kick in and start suggesting we’re after assorted players.  I’ve been ignoring the Chris Cohen rumour for a while, because he’s only just signed for Yeovil – but it is a persistent one, and as a midfielder the kind of area we should be strengthening.

However, the slightly odder one is that we’re apparently preparing a move for Bournemouth’s James Hayter – a 27 year old striker who’s spent his entire career with the Cherries.  For one, I can’t see us really needing another striker unless we’re planning on offloading one of our existing ones, and two, £700k is the reported bid (admittedly, this report came from the hugely dubious Daily Mirror) and that’s far too much.

Up front we have depth, particularly with Nathan Tyson within a month or so of a probably comeback, and I believe that it is improving the interplay from defence to midfield to attack that will yield positive results for us.  We need our midfield to both be an outlet for our defenders to play the ball to, eliminating the frustrating hoof ball we seem to resort to, and also a crucial feed for our strikers.
