1-0, and you f**ked it up!

Nottingham Forest – 2
Brighton and Hove Albion – 1

Well who would have thought it? 4 games, 4 penalties, 4 wins! The only blemish on our record being a goal conceded finally, after an uncharactistic howler from goalkeeper Paul Smith.

An odd game, where we were frankly awful for the first 60 minutes. Brighton clearly came with the aim of breaking up the game and snatching a goal, which they did after Smith came for a cross he really had no need to, and gifted them an early goal in the first half. In a way we were unlucky not to go in level when Grant Holt did well to fire a goalkeeping error goalward, only for a very impressive goal line clearance to keep it out.

Second half started very badly – Brighton demonstrated some good passing football without ever really threatening, but after switching to 4-4-2 for the second half we looked much better eventually, and after Lester was poleaxed in the area, it was a relief to see Grant Holt scoop up the ball and despatch it. Well, I say a relief to see, but I couldn’t bring myself to watch it!

Grant capped off another good performance by spraying the ball out right to Southall, whose cross clipped Perch on the near post before being buried at the far post by the man who started the move – definitely man of the match for me. Although a number of players impressed – Gary Holt was excellent defensive cover for the often wayward Julian Bennett in the first half, and became more of an attacking threat in the second, and Jack Lester also worked very hard throughout the game.

Generally a below average performance from the team – but if we can pick up results when not playing at our best then that’s no bad thing! It’s just a shame Port Vale also came back from losing at half time otherwise we’d be top of the league – but well, we’re still having a laugh!

Bring on Accrington Stanley!
